Next Generation Project Management

If I think about Next Generation Project Management it became clear to me that this must be a question that has been asked since we started doing project management in centuries past and that everyone asked what next? When I use to teach project management I would tell people that it is a profession that has been around since the beginning of time – the great pyramids, megalithic structures like Stone Henge and Passage tombs at NewGrange in Ireland, up to modern times and shooting rockets into space – all require the ability to manage the people, resources, costs , materials etc to meet an end result.

And all of these generations would be asking how can we improve, what is the next and how will it help us  deliver better, in essence how can I future proof my Project Management skills and remain valuable to an organization.

But despite those questions and ways we believed we had improved project management do we see the statistics getting better in terms of delivering projects? The answer is NO. It is like looking into a crystal ball and trying to define the future and so what I decided to do was just a general query on ChatGPT and ask a simple question – what is the future of project management?

The answer – “In an era where efficiency and adaptability define success, the landscape of project management is evolving at an unprecedented pace. As businesses navigate complex challenges the ability to deliver change using cutting edge technology and innovative methodologies is not just an advantage but a necessity. Here we present the latest findings in how to do that and avoid the pitfalls.”

As I read the response I was thinking is it really about the ‘cutting edge technology and innovative methodologies? If ChatGPT is picking that up from the Internet than that is what people are saying but that just can’t be the case. Even the latest PMI research has methodologies like Agile declining slightly and the Hybrid model advancing, why, because we need common sense to prevail

According to the PMI Project professionals it is communication, problem-solving, collaborative leadership and strategic thinking that are the most critical of those skills and they always have been!

We need to spend more time honing our human skills to remain relevant in our AI world. It is up to us to re-invent how we deliver projects.

Next – what did we learn from the past…

So little time…

We have so little time to give to someone special but it feels like we are always on the look out for the next best thing – even when we search for our partner.

The person we want to relax next too, enjoy the simple things in life. But we swap that for a short interaction, a brief introduction, a single moment when really what we want is a collection of memories with that someone special

Brake or Break

I cling to my individual rituals until

I find my partner to create our own together

I’m falling without even knowing it

My body has forgotten the sensation

I’m spiraling and need to brake or break

It is as if i am waiting for that something to happen to shake myself out

It has happened i just didn’t react fast enough and fell back to hit reset

I have lost my rock and i am unanchored – untethered from reason and now i am going on without direction. I can tell others what to do but am unable to direct myself

To achieve a breakthrough you sometimes have to break

Different plain…

The world changes and you either feel ahead or behind

And as you watch you reflect or feel transparent

The journey to find feels as though you are on a different plain

Where you are seeing those above or below but not parallel

The gap too big to jump track

Concerned of being left behind you struggle in how to relate

The journey shouldn’t have the be alone but is

Time

Time is the most precious gift you can give your partner. That acceptance of a date, that undivided attention when you meet, that ability to rearrange things so you can be with them and open up your calendar and make them a priority.

If you really want to be with someone you will give them time, you will make the time. The time you make is a gift, the time you don’t spend with them is a loss.

Combined Intervention…

We are all competing for some time

Someone’s attention

We are all wanting an instant response

Lacking patience

We are all craving a connection that is out of reach

Unobtainable

We are all lost in our lives with no direction

Rudderless

We all need a partner to help steer our ship

Combined intervention

In the arms of someone that matters (2017)

In the arms of someone that matters

It is that time of year to look back and reflect which is always an ok thing to do as long as you spend more time looking forward

I need to recognize opportunity before I lose it and invest in those that have a genuine interest in me before I lose them

Hard lesson to learn – good luck in 2017 and I hope you have those around you who matter and who care about you

Random Thought…

I watch the light appear slowly in the early hours of the morning and another turning of natures clock sees the light grow less each day through this season, and i continue to move with this cycle.

And as we change in our appearance so we change unseen inside and if we listen to ourselves closely and take time to let our thoughts wander we can begin to understand.

I listen and contemplate those changes and slowly it dawns on me that the cycle of time is impacting what I desire and what I want to be. I am moving towards that complimentary being, I am moving towards the understanding of me and the finding of you.

You are providing me a depth to explore, a wanting to grow into you and find us.
